About
Geriatricians care for the frail and vulnerable elder. This care requires interdisciplinary teams to address the bio-psycho-social needs that these patients often have. The involvement of family and support systems for these patients is also crucial in achieving optimal outcomes. Geriatrics does include the provision of medical services to these vulnerable elders, but also is a system of care that helps the patient and family cope with the multiple complex illnesses and problems that these patients face. The focus is always on optimizing function in the least restrictive environment.
With hospital partners at Froedtert and the Zablocki VA as well as community partners, interdisciplinary care programs have been designed to provide care to vulnerable elders as we seek to meet our educational mandate. The Division is also committed to educational innovation and the discovery of new knowledge through research.
